Audiority has released Dr Drive, a freeware modern overdrive guitar pedal effect in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats for compatible DAW applications on PC and Mac.
Dr Drive is an analog-modeled overdrive pedal plugin developed by Audiority. It is released in celebration of Audiority’s 10th anniversary. The plugin’s design and features are inspired by the Precision Drive overdrive pedal manufactured by Horizon Devices.
The interface design looks very similar to the original Precision Drive pedal. There are four knobs (Drive, Level, Attack, Bright) and a bypass switch for turning the effect on or off. The plugin also features a mix knob, a preset manager, and a noise gate, which is always handy in a guitar effect. Last but not least, the interface comes in three different sizes, which should be more than enough to accommodate most types of displays.

As for the sound, I’m not a guitar pedal expert by any means, but Dr Drive sounded very good to my ears. It’s exactly what I’d expect to hear from an analog-modeled distortion pedal. The control layout is intuitive, and the plugin is a joy to use overall.
